Colour of the week: Mint Makes

If you're a regular reader on the blog you will have seen my new feature 'colour of the week' which I introduced on Monday. Today I am sharing with you the design I have made with this week's colour; mint.

I've wanted to make an IKAT print for ages, I love textured prints and patterns. Last week I learnt how to create IKAT style texture in Illustrator, which I also used in my new Ikat Roses collection, and thought it would be the perfect use for this week's mint colour. I used one of the colour palettes I posted in the colour of the week post, combining lovely soft pastels with a strong orange.

Colour of the week

Today I am introducing a new feature to the blog.. colour of the week. I thought it would be fun each week to choose a colour to inspire the week and then create a design using that colour by the end of the week.

So without further ado I introduce to you this week's colour, Mint.

I chose mint green for colour of the week this week as I find it to be a cool calm colour with great energy, it makes me feel very determined and organised and symbolises this week well as I strive for growth in my work and business. Mint green is one of my favourite colours, a strong colour for a pastel shade, and symbolises freshness, perfect for spring.

Ikat Inspiration

Ikat designs have been around for a while now and although they have been on my radar and I have been aware that they are there I haven't been particularly drawn to them.. until now.

I was browsing American Eagle and discovered some incredible Ikat denim shorts.. then some pretty ikat dresses and finally some gorgeous ikat scarves..

I love the shapes and the textures used in ikat prints, there's something very modern about them but they still have a natural feel.

I've shared some of the lovely examples I found below, enjoy!

Absolutely adore the colour palette and patterns on this scarf, might have to get myself one! Don't be surprised if a colour inspiration post featuring this scarf crops up soon! I could do a post alone of the gorgeous American Eagle scarves! So many loves patterns and colours! Pretty scarves are making me excited for autumn!

Mint obsession

I have a mint obsession and it's really starting to show!

I bought some mint jeans at the weekend and I cannot wait to wear them! Here is an image of a similar pair (don't worry this isn't me!)

Mint seems to be everywhere this season and there are some lovely mint colour palettes doing the rounds on Pinterest..

Today I have been working on an abstract repeat pattern created with shapes and colours found within imagery of 'industry in New York City' and found this also becoming mint based! So here is a little sneak peek of the work in progress project..
