Black & White Pattern Collection

I recently worked on some Black & White Pattern designs for the latest Tigerprint contest. The brief asked you to create a black and white collection of surface pattern, using only black and white, no grey!

Below are the 5 designs I entered into the competition, I'm really big on colour and don't often work in just black and white so it was a good challenge and I'm so pleased with how they turned out! All the designs are made from my original drawings of flowers, leaves and other shapes, the texture of the line really shines in black and white!

Tigerprint - Male Pattern Competition Entries

I recently worked on entries for the latest Tigerprint competition, Male Pattern. The brief was to design a contemporary print pattern for a male recipient that could be used across a range of products such as gift bags, wrapping paper, stationery products and greetings cards. Male design tends to be very tricky and not something I do often so I wanted to challenge myself.

I chose an urban theme working with city skylines and a colour palette that works for men of different ages.

Tigerprint Hand Drawn Typography Competition

I recently submitted some designs into the Tigerprint Hand Drawn Typography Competition

I hand drew the type and illustrations and then scanned them in and developed them in Illustrator.

Below are my 5 entries each using a different phrase, colour palette and style. I had so much fun working on this project, I don't often hand draw pieces with a pen on paper and this particular style of typography and illustrations is something I used to do a lot when I was at college.

It felt like getting back to my roots and I have now drawn even more pieces which I hope to develop and share soon! I may even sell the designs as prints if people would like to buy them!

You can see the designs on the Tigerprint website here.. 1 · 2 · 3 · 4 · 5

Handmade birthday cards

Yesterday it was my mum and her twin sister's birthday, so I decided to make birthday cards for them. I think there is something really special about making cards especially for someone and since I've been working on the Tigerprint Gifted competition I have found I really like working on card designs!

I am planning to design some more cards and get them professionally printed and open and Etsy shop selling my cards and prints. It would be a dream come true for me, something I have always wanted to do, so fingers crossed it will all come together!

Sorry that the photos aren't great they were taken in a hurry before giving the cards to the birthday ladies! These cards were just printed on my laser printer at home, pretty pleased with how they came out considering! Hope you like!

Busy busy at Rosie Simons HQ!

Hellooooo lovely people

Sorry for the quiet patch, it's been busy busy here at Rosie Simons HQ and time just seems to be flying by! Cannot believe it is almost the middle of July already (where is time going) and that the weather is so rubbish (hello.. summer?!)

Thought I'd do a post updating on what I've been up to, I've been working on a freelance project creating logo and branding for an up and coming cupcake business, which has been very exciting! Don't want to give too much away yet.. but I can show you the logo and tell you that exciting products have been ordered and a shiny new website is on it's way! Please note, if you like cupcakes, there are THE BEST cupcakes I have EVER tasted! I'll post more on how you get said amazing cupcakes soon!

I have also been working on Tigerprint's Design a day competition, unfortunately with all the other things I have been working on I haven't been able to do a design everyday, but hope to catch up when I find some free time. But below are a few sneak peeks of the days that I have done so far!

Floral inspiration

A few weeks ago (when the weather was actually nice!) I took a trip to RHS Wisley, and it was very inspirational! The colour, shapes, textures and patterns I saw were unbelievable so I thought I would share a few of my favourite photos.

I'm hoping to find inspiration from these photos to make some new prints for the Tigerprint - Design a print competition, there's certainly enough shapes, colours and textures there!

All the photos of are unedited, a few have been cropped to show the best flowers in the photo, but all in their original colour straight from the camera! Hope you enjoy :)

P.S I now have a Twitter account for my design self, follow me @rosie_simons for sneak peeks, new goings on and other exciting things!
