New design - Ideal Homes Wallpapered Competition

Today I am sharing a new design I created recently for the Ideal Homes Wallpapered Competition.

As the print is designed for wallpaper it works best at a large scale where you can see all the detail and texture

I'm really pleased with this design and would love to actually have it as wallpaper! I hope to have it available as wallpaper (perhaps through Spoonflower) in the future!

Feature Friday - Elizabeth Olwen

Today our featured Friday designer is Elizabeth Olwen.

I took Module 3 of ABSPD with Elizabeth, I just adore her folksy florals and wonderful use of colour!

Elizabeth Olwen is a Toronto-based surface designer. Inspired by pastoral beauty, nature in its most playful forms, folklore, and romance, Elizabeth's work is driven by the desire to leave something beautiful behind with every step she takes.

Her obsession with patterns began as a child when she would become mesmerized by the orange floral drapes in her mother's kitchen. Surrounded by bold, unapologetic prints, patterns were something that she could lose herself in; a window to faraway places. Through the years, the love of patterns remained, and inspired her to start making her own.

Elizabeth loves old wallpapers and vintage fabrics, cannot be forced to choose a favourite colour, and is hopelessly devoted to travel.

As well as gorgeous flora and fauna designs, Elizabeth also creates fabulous geometrics like these below..

Elizabeth has been busy lately and some of her designs are now available as wallpapers through wallpapered.com

She also recently revealed her 'in bloom' collection is now available as a set of teNeues notecards!

This girl is gonna go far with her beautiful designs! Elizabeth is exhibiting at Surtex this May in Booth 752, so if you're heading to Surtex don't forget to go and check out her wonderful designs and meet the lovely girl herself!!

To find out more visit her website, follow her on twitter or like her on Facebook!

Feature Friday - Mel Smith Designs

Today I am introducing a new feature.. Feature Friday.

I thought it would be really nice to dedicate a day on the blog to featuring designers I know and/or whose work I admire! I mean who doesn't love some gorgeous work on a Friday?

Today our *first* featured designer is..

Mel Smith Designs

I first came across Mel's work on Society6 where the design below from her 'bold & beautiful' collection caught my eye. Mel like me is a massive fan of colour and I love her use of it. This pattern really does make my heart sing!

Mel describes her style and process of working..

"My work is quite graphic but I like to keep a hand drawn feel to it all. Everything starts as quick doodles, later tidied up with neater sketches and then finally scanned into Photoshop for recolouring and creating my patterns. I could change the colour of some of my designs all day - I think colour grabs my attention first when I'm looking around shops - and think this aspect of the design is just as important as the pattern itself, if not more sometimes."

"I love retro graphics and mid-century design, as well as the whole Scandinavian look, so I think all of these styles are incorporated into my work in one way or another."

Mel sells handmade greetings cards, magnets, buttons, earrings, rings, notebooks and more in her Etsy store

"My Bold &  beautiful and Black Border ranges have been received well in recent months and I have a variety of handmade products available in these designs. I also have wallpapers, iPhone cases, canvases, and laptop skins available from online shops Wallpapered.com and Society6" (links below)

Mel is currently open to/looking for commissioned work, so please contact her via her website.

Hope everyone enjoyed the first feature friday! Thanks Mel for sharing your work with us! If anyone is interested in having their work featured in the coming weeks please contact me on twitter (@rosie_simons)

Spoonflower introduce Wallpaper printing

Yesterday the exciting news broke that Spoonflower are now offering custom printed wallpaper and decals as well as the amazing custom printed fabric service they already provide.

I jumped straight on to the website to experience this great new service. It was like it was perfectly planned after my post yesterday where I said I could see my new design as wallpaper! So I uploaded the tile and huzzah there appeared my tile repeated and mocked up on a room setup!

And now because I promised I'd share more.. here is my new design 'Scribble flower' in green! I really love how versatile the design is, it works well at different scales and in different colours. A large scale is great for wallpaper but the design also works well at a smaller scale for example on an iPhone case (coming soon!)

Little update

I've been very busy working on lots of new designs and product ideas recently so I thought I'd share a few today. I've added a few new and updated designs to my Society6 shop and mocked up my patterns on some other outcomes I'd love to see.

I really love seeing my designs mocked up onto products or (almost) real life situations!

I am currently available for freelance work or commissions, my designs are also available for licensing, contact me for more details. You can contact me on twitter @rosie_simons or facebook or via my website.

First up, a new design I shared as part of the passion4pattern blog hop, inspired by my recent trip to Canada, Beauty Wood.

Next up is a design I shared a little while back, Blow me one last kiss, but updated with a different colour background and a cute little polka dot. I think this pattern would be perfect for the lining of a little girls coat!

Wallpaper

This might look rather simple but this was my first attempt at making a pattern that repeats for wallpaper.. So i was quite impressed when it actually worked and fitted back together! Now to develop it..
