New Collection - Garden Floral
Today I am sharing with you a sneak peek into a new collection - Garden Floral. You may recognise the first floral design as the pattern that filled the garden tools in my recent Spoonflower Garden Tools Contest entry. I created the design especially to fill the garden tools but loved it so much and saw potential in the motifs to create a whole collection.

Spoonflower Contest - Garden Tools
It's been a little while since I've entered a Spoonflower contest but this week I was particularly taken by the brief to 'Celebrate the Spring by creating some fabric dedicated to gardening tools'.
I decided to go for bright floral patterned gardening tools and sweet garden signage. You can vote here.

New design - Ideal Homes Wallpapered Competition
Today I am sharing a new design I created recently for the Ideal Homes Wallpapered Competition.
As the print is designed for wallpaper it works best at a large scale where you can see all the detail and texture
I'm really pleased with this design and would love to actually have it as wallpaper! I hope to have it available as wallpaper (perhaps through Spoonflower) in the future!

Spoonflower Matisse/Nasher
This weeks Spoonflower contest was run in conjunction with The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University and the brief was to create a design that would look at home in a Matisse painting. The colour palette was specified, with some really lovely colours so I couldn't help but take part!
Below is my entry, you can vote on the Spoonflower website here!

Spoonflower & Mollie Makes
This week the Spoonflower weekly contest 'Flights of Fancy' is sponsored by the brilliant UK craft magazine Mollie Makes. The task was to create a bird of flight-related fabric design (repeating) that used a restricted colour palette (grey, light teal, apple green and pale yellow).
Mollie Makes are planning to use the winning fabric in a photo for the cover of Issue 26 of Mollie Makes on sale April 2013, how cool is that? You can vote here!
So without further ado here is my design, Hummingbird Heaven. There are some amazing entries this week so it will be a very tough contest and I would love it if you like my design if you could take a moment to vote for it!

Spoonflower
This week I entered Spoonflower's Holiday Napkin Contest..
I wanted to create something fun and festive, so I chose bright versions of classic 'holiday' colours and combined them with contemporary Illustrations of classic holiday icons and 'happy holidays' caption in a playful typeface.
You can vote HERE!

The only instructions for the competition were 'Using a fat quarter (21" x 18") of fabric as your canvas, create a set of holiday-themed cocktail napkins. We suggest setting them up sized at 4.5" x 4.5" inches, with an additional quarter inch on each side to be used as a seam allowance (making each square 5" x 5")' so you were free to play with different ideas and layouts of the design.. I chose to go patterned!

Spoonflower Custom Gift Wrap
Spoonflower have been at it again! Adding yet more dream-worthy and exciting new features to their site! Now on top of custom fabric, wallpaper and wall decal printing, you can order custom printed rolls of Gift Wrap!
It looks like the gift wrap feature is a holiday special, so if you want some get in there quickly! Although I imagine that if sales go well they will continue to provide the feature.
I've always wanted to produce and sell my designs as gift wrap, and yet again Spoonflower has provided the opportunity!
If you would be interested in buying some Rosie Simons Design gift wrap please comment below or let me know via Twitter! (@rosie_simons)
How CUTE are their on site mock ups! It's great for imagining how the designs will look as gift wrap!

Spoonflower Arrows contest
This weeks Spoonflower contest was Arrows, and for the first time ever I entered a design!
It's so exciting seeing it up there on the site with lots of other lovely designs and knowing lots of people out there will see it when placing their all important votes!
The only restriction of the contest (other than sticking to the theme of arrows) was to make a seamless repeat pattern, so I set about interweaving arrows to make an interesting repeat.
Below is my entry, once I had decided on the layout I played around with different colour ways for the design, but then had so many I couldn't decide which one I liked best. I chose this one as it is the most 'me' but will share some of the other colour ways soon! You can vote here!

Spoonflower introduce Wallpaper printing
Yesterday the exciting news broke that Spoonflower are now offering custom printed wallpaper and decals as well as the amazing custom printed fabric service they already provide.
I jumped straight on to the website to experience this great new service. It was like it was perfectly planned after my post yesterday where I said I could see my new design as wallpaper! So I uploaded the tile and huzzah there appeared my tile repeated and mocked up on a room setup!
And now because I promised I'd share more.. here is my new design 'Scribble flower' in green! I really love how versatile the design is, it works well at different scales and in different colours. A large scale is great for wallpaper but the design also works well at a smaller scale for example on an iPhone case (coming soon!)
Don't forget to go and check out the Spoonflower website to learn all about their new services!

Creating fabric from drawings
Yesterday I found this wonderful Spoonflower blog tutorial by Anda Corrie and it looked fabulous so today I decided I would give it a go and I am so pleased with the result!
The step by step instructions show you how to create hand drawn patterns using a black marker and some crayons (or other colouring instruments, I used Promarkers) and then turn them into clear images to upload to Spoonflower to print as fabric!
I had two goes, it's such a satisfying process and I love how they have turned out! You can see the designs in my Spoonflower shop, I'm planning to order some so they will hopefully be for sale in the not too distant future!

Custom fabric makes
It suddenly occurred to me that I never shared the photos of the things I made with my custom printed Spoonflower fabric for my degree work! You can see the original post about the fabric here.
I made bunting, a bag, keyrings, fabric napkins and seat cushions with the 2 coordinating fabrics. It's a great summery fabric and the seat cushions have been out in my garden looking beautiful!
You can buy the fabrics in my Spoonflower shop (apples + stripes)
