Custom fabric makes

It suddenly occurred to me that I never shared the photos of the things I made with my custom printed Spoonflower fabric for my degree work! You can see the original post about the fabric here.

I made bunting, a bag, keyrings, fabric napkins and seat cushions with the 2 coordinating fabrics. It's a great summery fabric and the seat cushions have been out in my garden looking beautiful!

Lately..

It's been a little while since I posted so I thought I'd better update on all my recent goings on and makings!

October is birthday time in my family, my dad and sister have their birthdays 10 days apart so at the weekend we had a family day to celebrate their birthdays. I wanted to make some birthday bunting items so I made some cake bunting with matching cupcake flags and a personalised scrapbook for my sister as it is her 21st, and I just think it is wonderful to have a keepsake from big birthdays!

(Sorry if the photos look like they need cropping and editing.. they do.. but I can't get photoshop to work properly to do it, so unedited photos will have to do!)

In other news, I'm back at LCC doing my final year of my degree.. so you will probably be seeing a lot of sketchbooks like this one!

I'm just starting work on my first project, I have chosen to do a self initiated project first and I am looking at the logo, identity and branding of the dance school I used to dance at. I am working with dancers, teachers, ex-dancers and anyone who wants to get involved with the project to try and come up with the outcomes right for the school. Today I made..

Bunting Cards!

I was making some baby bunting like I posted about a few months ago, in blues and greens for my mums birthday, and I decided to make a card with stitched on paper bunting to match!

I started out by making this card, which matches the paper bunting I had just made.. I cut small paper triangles, stuck them to the card using double sided tape and then stitched along the top. I left the threads of so it would feel more like the pieces were hanging.





After the success of the first piece I decided to make some more in different colours, so I made this one using plain and patterned turquoise papers..


I opted for a smaller square size, with less flags, I then added the writing 'hi you' to make it a friendly greeting card for all occasions.



For this card I used patterned pink paper mixed with lined brown paper, I love the mix of textures in the papers.



Finally I made another small square card, this time reading 'thank you'. I used plain pink and turquoise papers mixed with lined brown paper. The pink coming off around the letters was accidental, where the backing of the letraset pulled it away, but I think this actually gives a nice rustic effect!

Today I made..

Bunting!

I've wanted to make bunting for ages, but as I was short on time in making this before a friends birthday, I decided to make the bunting out of paper instead of fabric. Also decided to make small bunting that could be posted easily to arrive the next day.

I cut out small paper triangles, approximately 5x6cm. The patterned triangles are made from wrapping paper, bought from Primark for just £1! (bargain!) I cut twice as many triangles as I needed and stuck them back to back to make them sturdier. I also cut out pink, purple, turquoise, blue and orange triangles to add some variety. These were made using A5 Paperchase Spectrascope pad, the most useful pad of paper I've ever purchased. Can be purchased at Paperchase here..

Below you can see the full length of the bunting, I just cut out a random amount of triangles and started sewing, it turned out to be quite a lot. The bunting ended up approximately 3.7m long!



I used one plain coloured triangle between each patterned triangle..



I placed the triangles into folded ribbon and then sewed along the edge to hold it all together..




It looked so cute when I hung it up on my wall that I wanted to keep it!
