Custom fabric makes

It suddenly occurred to me that I never shared the photos of the things I made with my custom printed Spoonflower fabric for my degree work! You can see the original post about the fabric here.

I made bunting, a bag, keyrings, fabric napkins and seat cushions with the 2 coordinating fabrics. It's a great summery fabric and the seat cushions have been out in my garden looking beautiful!

You can buy the fabrics in my Spoonflower shop (apples + stripes)

Surface Design snapshots

There are some really wonderful surface design pieces out in the market right now, from homeware to clothing I thought I'd share some of my favourite pieces I have seen recently.. I love looking out for great design as inspiration!

Below: Bird Silhouette mug from Sainsburys, available in duck egg or pink. I love the simple 1 colour design with a combination of solid shapes and line details and sweet motifs

Below: Fluro Print Vest from New Look, I just adore the bright colours and geometric pattern

Below: Pop Art Purple Floral Crop Top from New Look, this piece has a lovely colour palette and a great mix of textured colours and black lines

Below: Some photos I took of a window display I saw in St Ives, Cornwall whilst on holiday, it was such a nice arrangement of beautiful surface design pieces, unfortunately it was just a little gift shop and when I went inside none of the products had any branding or labelling on so I don't actually know who made them! I loved all the different florals, polka dots and laser cut tree with flowers and birds!

Below: Hummingbird Asymmetric Vest from BHS, this may be for kids but I love this simple elegant white bird print on my favourite colour - TURQUOISE!

Below: Items in the apple pattern from Paperchase, tea towel and diary. I love the printed texture to the organic shapes and the way they are layered, so fresh and fun!

Finally, I've signed up to take part in this year's Tigerprint Gifted? A design a day competition, you can read the press release here. Between 27th June and 31st July you will get sent a different theme everyday where you create something, you can sketch, doodle, stitch, collage, paint, photograph, embroider, type, render, scult.. anything goes. The only confinement is that you can only use black and white, so I've been looking out for interesting black and white designs, like this black and white floral shift dress from M&S below, to inspire me for the beginning of this great project!

I've been working on some new surface designs and been given LOTS of amazing vintage fabrics, so many exciting blog posts to come in the next few days!

My spoonflower fabric came!

Today is a very very exciting day! My spoonflower fabric I posted about last week arrived, and it is such an exciting experience to see your own design printed so professionally on fabric!

So here are a few photos, I chose colours which are very hard to photograph it seems!

Really happy with how it's come out! The colour, as expected, is slightly different to how it looked on screen and how I had imagined but it works well! The fabric is now available to purchase from my spoonflower shop here!

Update of the full project coming soon when I have made things with the fabric. Planning to make bunting, bags and possibly cushion covers too!

Custom printed fabrics

I posted a while ago about how Spoonflower was an amazing service and how I wanted to get some of my own designs printed on fabric, but I never had the time or opportunity to do it, until now!

I've been working on the YCN Marks & Spencers Picnic Project, and decided to tackle it by designing a pattern and identity for the entire range. I wanted to do a fun family picnic with a healthy theme, to promote healthy eating. I will post about the entire project later when everything is finished but for now just wanted to share the designs I have just sent off to get printed on fabric!

I designed an apple pattern, with bright summery colours, fun patterns and textures and a healthy fruit theme, shown below is the tile and repeat.

I also designed a textured stripe pattern using the same colours to compliment the apple print, shown below is the tile and repeat.

I just love the feeling of summer and happiness these designs bring to me! It's been fantastic working on them and I can't wait to receive the printed fabric, and make something with it, which I will of course share!

You can view my fabrics on Spoonflower here, they are not yet for sale but hopefully once I've received mine and am happy with it, it will be available for anyone to buy.. how exciting!
