Feature Friday - Joanne Hawker

Today's Featured Friday Designer is.. Joanne Hawker

I just adore Joanne's use of colour and fantastic illustrations so am honoured to share her work on the blog today! I'll let Joanne do the talking..

Hello!

My name is Joanne Hawker and I live in a little corner of Somerset where I doodle, day dream about adventures in new countries and generally just make pretty things. I graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2010 with a first class honours degree in Graphic Communication.

I have a huge passion for design, illustration and surface pattern. A lot of my work features elements from the natural world as I find it hugely inspiring! Most of my work starts life as a doodle before it is inked up, scanned and then redrawn digitally.

I have an etsy shop where you can buy various prints of some my illustrations or typographic, some of which can be personalised. In the near future you may see some of my patterns above on a few new things! Fingers crossed!

You can find me all across the web in various nooks and crannies.

"I tend to use a mixture of line drawings and doodles along with computer illustration to create my work.  I take a lot of my inspiration from nature, old china and vintage fabrics and am often looking around charity shops, antique markets or our local park, taking photographs of any & everything that interest me."

"I have a Society6 shop where my designs are on prints, cushions, stationery, iPhone cases & iPad skins. I am currently looking for representation and am available for commissions and licensing.  I can be contacted via my website."

Feature Friday - Lisa Buckridge

Today's feature Friday designer is.. Lisa Buckridge

Lisa is an illustrator and surface pattern designer based in the UK. She shares her patterns on her blog called 'Posted Patterns' and also her illustrations on her illustration blog

Lisa tells us a little about how her surface pattern design career so far and herself as a designer..

I was given the opportunity to design my first ever repeat pattern for Peony Scarves 2 years ago and have been very lucky to be able to continue designing for them ever since. My designs are mostly about animals and birds and recently some florals that are currently in production and we are waiting for the samples of these to arrive any time soon. My scarf designs are produced by hand using silk screens so it is important that I keep them simple and clean; because of this, my way of working has evolved from traditional to digital and although I am still drawing, when it comes to surface pattern design, it tends to be on a screen rather than paper. I would describe my patterns as cute and quirky.

The texture of Lisa's line comes across gorgeously when her illustrative patterns are printed on scarves

You can buy Lisa's illustrations and patterns on products from her Society6 store!

Feature Friday - Natalie Alexander

Today I have a real treat for you! Our feature friday designer is Natalie Alexander.

Natalie Alexander is a graphic and surface designer and fellow ABSPD graduate. When I first saw Natalie's work I was instantly drawn to her gorgeous colour palettes, fun florals and delicious use of texture.

Natalie describes her style as contemporary with a raw element, she likes her designs to have a slightly unpolished appearance and really enjoys working with bold colour palettes.

The unpolished, raw feel to Natalie's designs is one of my favourite things about them, they feel so free and passionate but lighthearted and uplifting at the same time.
